Shakespeare tells us in this story about the capacity of the individual of being evil, and by doing it, open the way to his self-destruction. A Shakespeare full of knowledge and humanism about the capacity of regeneration of the human person.
The proposal of Madico for this Conte d´hivern is a simple and restrained staging which, with the “political ruckus” as backdrop, underlines the emotional processes as the unique base to construct the stage game. In his own words: The emotion, axis and center of the performance.
In the end of his life, Shakespeare decided to write this tale. A piece which goes above the limits of time and space, to enter deep in a story where reality and fiction overlay with the usual naturalism profiling the dramaturge. Shakespeare cultivates in this piece a new stage gender, the romance (a mixture of tragedy, comedy and lyric drama) copying some of the usual effects of the luxurious masquerades of the court (choreographies, dances… )
The author allows himself some licenses, belonging to the new gender, to construct a story which exposes with a deep enlightenment, the ambitions and miseries of the human being.
